The government will soon start rehabilitating Internally Displaced People (IDPs) affected by alcoholism in Nakuru County.
John Mututho, the National Authority Campaign against Drugs Abuse (Nacada) chairman has pointed out that Pipeline IDP camp is the most affected with alcoholism.
It is claimed that the camp hosts over 20 brewing dens.
Speaking to the press in Nakuru, Mututho said with the help of the administration police in the area, they will start a crackdown on the illegal chang’aa brewers.
He attributed the high drinking levels to despair and disillusionment in the camp.
“Many of the youths have already given up on life. They are turning into social drinking and eventually becoming alcoholics who cannot control themselves leave alone feeding their families,” said Mututho.
He further cited that they would restrict the entry and exit of materials that are being used to make chang’aa and busaa in the county.
“We will arrest and charge all people involved in this business in the court of law. We cannot sit and watch our young people die of illicit brew,” notes Mututho.
The move comes as IDP leaders in the country raised a red flag over the excessive drinking in the camps a trend which has translated to high crime in the area.
