Members of Muungano Trust Youth Platform lobby group in Nakuru have embarked on a Youth Civic Education Programme across the county to create awareness and empower the area youth groups on social, legal, political and economic rights, procedures and principles.
Addressing members of the lobby group at Chester Hotel in Nakuru town on Tuesday during the commissioning of the project, the co-ordinator of the programme Elizabeth Wati observed that there was a need to provide civic education to youths aged between 18 and 30 within the county to mentor them in becoming reliable, informed and resourceful citizens.
“This project is dedicated towards mentoring our fellow young people understand various legal, socio-economic and even economic principles and procedures. It is true that majority of the youth in the country fail to make informed decisions in life because they lack basic information on many aspects of life,” said Wati.
She added that they also encourage youths to join the lobby group saying that them joining will make them get more mentorship skills.
Wati announced that the programme that is being sponsored by the mother Muungano Trust will incorporate youths in school clubs, colleges and universities, Church youth groups and community based organisations and youth groups who will undertake workshops and individual instructions on various aspects affecting young people in the country at large.
