Kenya Ferry services managing director Bakari Ngoya said the ferry has been operating during off peak hours to allow the staff to familiarise themselves with the vessel.
“MV Jambo is a bit different from the others as it is highly electronic and only three of our captains were trained in Turkey on how to operate it.
We wanted all our 29 captains to learn how to use it,” said Ngowa, as quoted by Baraka FM.
Ngowa also said it was important for the experts from Turkey to train the captains on safety measures before the ferry kicks off operation.
The 80 meter-long ferry which has a capacity of 60 vehicles and 1,350 passengers is expected to ease congestion at the Likoni crossing channel.
The Sh21 billion ferry was launched two weeks ago in a colourful ceremony attended by different high profile guests including Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and his Transport counterpart James Macharia.
