Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir has joined local leaders in mourning the death of veteran Coast politician Ahmed Bamahriz.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Nassir described Bamahriz as a champion for multi-party democracy and a crusader for human rights.
"He will be remembered as one of the original champions of multi-party democracy in Kenya in the early 1990s," read part of the post.
Bamahriz made his debut in politics in 1979 when he was elected as councilor in the Municipal Council.
He was one of the political leaders detained by the KANU regime during the struggle for multipartyism in the early 1990s.
Bamahriz is said to have died on Saturday evening at Al-Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, after a long illness.
