Mvita MP Sharrif Nassir on Friday graced the Mombasa County Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) Implementation Planning Workshop.
The Haki Africa moderated event brought together various stakeholders providing a framework for enhancing partnerships in preventing/countering violent extremism in the county and country at large.
"As a constituency we have commissioned several community projects to ensure our children stay away from vices even during school holidays," said Nassir.
He said such projects include community libraries and organizing for football tournaments during holidays.
"Another preventive aspect we have been able to do is the Skillz Mitaani initiative which seeks to give a chance to those students who don't make it to Universities to enroll in various training opportunities of their choice," he said.
In addition, the lawmaker said the constituency office had organized several community barazas on the same issue in the past few years.
"At the National Assembly level, I have raised the matter numerous times as well and sought the House's intervention on issues such as random targeted mass arrests, enforced disappearances in the name of fighting extremism."
During the workshop, the MP also stressed on the importance of the authorities working closely with the communities to CVE.
