Speaking at Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) staff quarters where he met a group of youth from Shimanzi, the legislator expressed the importance of peer sensitization as a means of delivering the coastal youth from ignorance and poverty.

“Mombasa County has been making headlines with criminal gangs and drug cartels being the topics of discussion. The time has come for youth to rise up and seize the available opportunities that will expose them to the outside world,” said Nassir.

He said the county is one of the regions in the country with a large number of productive youth, who have been enslaved by drug addiction.

“The youth no longer engage in meaningful initiatives due to over dependence on drugs. The situation has led to an increase of criminal activities in the area," said Nassir.

He however said the county has put measures in place to help rehabilitate already affected youth.
