Embattled Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has exuded confidence that his development record will play a great role in his re-election bid, despite murmurs of reservation regarding his decision to quit the ODM Party.
Speaking in the company of Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro, the governor said he does not fear elections.
"We know elections will come next year and we don't fear anything. Today I will not say much but tell you that I will not be swayed by anyone," said Mvurya.
Mvurya's trouble with the ODM Party started after he openly declared that he will support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year's general election.
The governor said he has done a lot to transform the county, which is regarded as one of the poorest in the country, which is why 'enemies of progress' are salivating for his seat.
This comes at a time when various groups in the county have launched offensive attacks against ODM for expelling Mvurya from the party.
Kwale Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani termed the governor's expulsion as unfair.
She said Mvurya is still popular in the county, adding that they are going to defend the seat together.
