Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has exuded confidence that he will retain his seat ahead of the August general election. The county boss, who spoke during a funds drive dinner towards his re-election bid at Leopard Beach Hotel in Diani, said he will give his opponents a run for their money in August.Mvurya, who defected from ODM to Jubilee citing frustrations, said his performance record speaks for itself. The governor went on to note that he will win the seat with a huge margin because he has fulfilled the promises he made before he ascended to power in 2013. He cited the education sector, where he said he has done enough including issuance of bursaries to needy students with dreams to pursue higher education. “For the four years I have been governor, development has been realised in Kwale County. As we speak today, 2,801 students from Kwale studying in national secondary schools are receiving 100 per cent county bursary up from 258 in 2013/14,” he said. The Jubilee point man also noted that his government has pumped a lot of money towards the health sector, adding that there is more to be done if he retains power. “There is a task force undertaking feasibility study for the establishment of Shimoni port. We have received Sh400 million for Msambweni hospital and Sh250 million to set up an intensive care unit and develop Kwale and Kinango hospitals,” he added, as quoted by the Nation. His sentiments were backed by Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani who called upon the electorate to elect leaders who are ready not only to unite them but also to deliver services.“They are using tribalism to divide the voters. Ignore them and elect people who will unite us and bring development like (Governor) Salim Mvurya,” she said.
