Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya is upbeat his development record will earn him a second term in the upcoming general election slated for August 8.
According to the Nation, Mvurya said he has no regrets ditching the opposition for the Jubilee Party, noting that his move has borne much fruit."My development record speaks for itself. Within the four years of my administration, development has been realised in the county," said the governor."We were in the opposition in 2007, we remained in the opposition in 2013 and we can’t repeat that mistake in 2017. We thought that by being in the opposition we would get development, but we have reaped nothing," he added.Mvurya who is facing a stiff challenge from Wiper candidate Chirau Mwakwere, ODM’s Issa Chipera and Sammy Ruwa (Independent), said he’ll rally Kwale residents to back President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.The county boss thanked the Uhuru-led Jubilee administration for improving the region’s infrastructure such as roads as well as the agricultural sector. The governor urged residents to make wise decisions when voting and shun voting along party lines. His deputy, Fatuma Achani, echoed his sentiments, advising voters to choose leaders who have their interests at heart."Do not be blackmailed by leaders who did not bring change in the county when they were in power in the previous regimes...elect those who will bring development as we have done in the four years," Achani said. The two leaders spoke in Ukunda during the opening of Mkwakwani ECDE.
