Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has urged residents of his backyard to maintain peace before, during and after the fresh presidential election.

Speaking on Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kinangi Baraza park, the county boss asked residents to take part in the exercise, arguing that it is their democratic right.

He reminded supporters of the opposition not to disrupt the exercise if they choose not to vote.

 Mvurya, who defected from ODM, also said that is it not mandatory for the residents to vote.

"If anyone does not feel like voting or being in the ballot box in next week’s fresh presidential election, then they should stay back at home," he said as quoted by The Star.

The county boss also assured the residents that the national and county governments have put in place measures to ensure that their security is guaranteed ahead of the rerun.

The vocal politician further urged the residents to ignore calls by National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate, Raila Odinga to demonstrate during on the voting day. 

Mvurya also assured the residents that he will improve their livelihoods without sidelining anyone including those who voted for his opponents during the August general election.

His remarks were reiterated by acting county commissioner Mwangi Kahiro who called for calm during the electioneering period.
