The Kwale County Government has directed all striking doctors to report to work failure to which they will be sacked.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Salim Mvurya, Health executive Athuman Chiguzo said the ongoing strike is illegal, adding that a disciplinary action will be taken against any doctor who will defy the directive. “Doctors who fail to resume duty as directed will face the sack,” he said, as quoted by Nation. Residents have been lamenting about the ongoing strike after the government failed to agree with doctors over the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). According to the agreement, doctors are expected to be awarded a 300 per cent pay rise and their working conditions improved. Chiguzo, however, said that they will only fire the striking doctors if they get an order from the Council of Governors' office or the office of the President. He confirmed that the county government has already written letters to the doctors asking them to report to work.Several leaders from Kwale County including Woman Rep Zainab Chidzuga have faulted leaders for politicizing the ongoing striking at the expense of the lives of the common wananchi.
On its part, the national government has insisted that it will no longer hold talks with the doctors.
