Ananiah Mwaboza accused the Joho-led administration of failing to give residents value for the Sh18 billion disbursed from the Treasury to the county.

He told the press on Friday that Joho had not lived to the expectations of the people of Mombasa.

"What has Sh4.5 billion a year, which amounts to Sh18 billion, been doing for the last four years for the people of Mombasa?" Mwaboza was quoted by the Star newspaper questioning.

"Who says it was a priority to put walk paths within Nyali, while there are areas like Mshomoroni, Mwakirunge, Jomvu, Kwa Hola, and Mtongwe which have no roads?"

Joho is facing stiff competition as he prepares to defend his seat for governor in 2017.

Other politicians who have declared interest for his seat include Senator Omar Hassan, businessman Suleiman Shahbal and Mwaboza.

Joho who enjoys support from ODM party leader Raila Odinga according to analysts however, is expected to sail through since Mombasa County remains one of the devolved units where opposition Cord enjoys massive support.

County communications director Richard Chacha refuted the funds misappropriation claims saying every sector had been allocated adequate cash to finance development.
