Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Ananiah Mwaboza has urged the Mijikenda Community to unite in a bid to clinch more seats in the upcoming polls.
Mwaboza said other communities from the Coast region have been using the Mijikenda to rise to power.
He noted that he is aware of a plot hatched by a section of politicians with the aim of dividing the community in 2017, to prevent them from reaping the fruits of the new Constitution.
He questioned why the Mijikenda should settle for lesser posts such as deputy governor, yet they are the majority in the region.
“If you go to Northeastern, they will tell you Mombasa is for the Giriama. In Nyamira, you will get (Governor John) Nyagarama. The same is replicated in other regions. Why are we in Mombasa being given only ceremonial posts (such as deputy governor)?” asked Mwaboza as quoted by The Star.
Mwaboza, however, said that the desire to ascend to power will not be realized if the community votes as it has been doing in the last general election.
