After many weeks of push and pull with his rival Governor John Mruttu over the ODM ticket, Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu has been given a nod by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for Taita Taveta governor.

Mwadeghu who is also the Minority Whip in the National Assembly was cleared on Thursday after presenting his nomination papers to the electoral body.Speaking after being cleared, the lawmaker exuded confidence that he will win the seat having assembled a political team that packs a political punch.Mwadeghu promised to focus on key areas like education and water supply in the county if elected in August.Also given the green light to vie is independent candidate Erastus Katani who despite being considered an outsider in the race expressed his optimism that the residents will give him the mandate to lead the county come August 8.Governor John Mruttu who opted to run as an independent after losing in the ODM nominations to Mwadeghu was also cleared and expressed confidence that the locals will give him a fresh mandate.Dan Mwazo of Jubilee and ANC's Jacinta Mwatela are also in the crowded race.
