Mombasa Trade Executive Hamisi Mwaguya has dismissed Deputy Governor Hazel Katana’s defection to Jubilee as inconsequential.
Mwaguya termed Katana’s defection from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as a grave mistake that she will live to regret.
This comes after Katana declared interest in the race to succeed Senator Hassan Omar, who has joined the county’s gubernatorial race.
Mwaguya, who is also eyeing the Senatorial seat on an ODM ticket, rubbished Katana’s senatorial bid, terming it invalid.
The trade executive said Mombasa is an ODM stronghold, and no Jubilee candidate, including Katana, should expect much from the electorate.
He claimed that Katana is not in the same league with him as far as the region’s politics are concerned, likening her defection to a case in which someone is seeking refuge where there is no peace.
“She has committed political suicide if she had a political life. Mombasa remains an ODM zone. It is like walking out of a brick house into a grass house in the middle of a storm,” said Mwaguya, as quoted by The Star.
His sentiments come after President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday officially welcomed Katana to Jubilee party.
