A former Jubilee ally has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for taking credit for the implementation of the Standard Gauge Railway project.Former Kenyan ambassador to Tanzania Chirau Ali Mwakwere slammed the duo for chest thumping about the railway when it was he (Mwakwere) who came up with the whole idea.
"Uhuru and Ruto should stop priding themselves that they came up with SGR. I'm the one who came up with it. I created SGR," he told NTV on Monday. The former Matuga MP further told of the two leaders saying they were not any match to his development projects."The truth is Uhuru and Ruto lack any development ideas. I am better than them. My development record is better than theirs, " he said.Mwakwere who was once the deputy party leader of the now defunct United Republican Party (URP) will be gunning for the Kwale gubernatorial seat on a Wiper party ticket. He was appointed as an ambassador to the neighbouring Tanzania after the Jubilee party took over in 2013 but has since resigned to contest on the forthcoming August polls.
It is believed his strained relationship with the Jubilee leadership made him quit the diplomatic role.
