Kwale governor hopeful Chirau Ali Mwakwere has cautioned residents against re-electing Governor Salim Mvurya in the August 8 general election.
Speaking to supporters in Kwale town on Wednesday, Mwakwere claimed that Mvurya does not deserve re-election, adding that residents will be committing political suicide if they hand him a second term in office. The former Kenyan ambassador to Tanzania said the county is still grappling with unemployment, high poverty levels and poor infrastructure because Mvurya cannot account for the funds he has been receiving from the national government.Mwakwere further hit out at the incumbent, accusing him of not having the political and managerial experience required for one to be governor.“Mvurya’s time is up and he should be shown the door because he has under-performed as governor,” said Mwakwere as quoted by the Standard.Mwakwere urged residents to support his election bid, arguing that his political experience is enough to move the county to the next level. He said he will implement policies that will turn around the county’s economic status, and pledged to work for the people by ensuring inclusivity in appointments to public positions.Mwakwere is seeking to unseat Mvurya on a Wiper Party ticket.
