Police in Kwale are probing an incident in which a fire gutted down a beach hotel belonging to former Ambassador Chirau Ali Mwakere’s cousin, Mwamlole Tchappu.According to Kenyans.co.ke the fire destroyed property worth approximately Sh8 million.Police have confirmed that no causalities were reported following the fire incident at Mwachale Beach Hotel. However, Tchappu has alleged that the incident is an arson attack, adding that it is likely to have a political influence. Tchappu said he cannot rule out a political motive considering the incident occurred a few days after he challenged Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya’s re-election in court.“I cannot rule out politics in this fire, coming shortly after filing a petition. I am however, not blaming the fire on my opponents, but cannot rule out politics. I am not saying it is Mr Mvurya, but it is political,” said Tchappu, as quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.Mvurya won the Kwale gubernatorial race after garnering 119, 914 votes. Mwakwere came in a distant second with 29, 491 votes.
