Former Matuga MP Chirau Ali Mwakwere was on Thursday given the green light by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie for Kwale governor in the August polls on a Wiper ticket.
Mwakwere is keen to bring his political career back on track after a humiliating defeat at the hands of the late Senator Boy Juma Boy in the 2013 senatorial race. And with the August elections inching closer, the veteran politician's strategy to trounce his opponents in the ballot remains a guarded secret, even as he insists that he is the man to beat in the race.Speaking after he was cleared by the electoral body, Mwakwere said he will continue campaigning secretly as he has always done since he joined the race to unseat Governor Salim Mvurya."Our campaigns remain a secret so that our opponents ask where we are and later find that we have won," he said.He also said that he has invaded his opponents' territories in a bid to tilt the political scales in his favour.Mwakwere who until recently was Kenya's Ambassador to Tanzania had to wait until last minute to pick a running mate after Simeon Mkalla ditched him. With his opponents left guessing on the strategy that the former Minister is going to use to reinvent his political career, Mwakwere could be headed for a shock win.
