Machakos County government has been urged to consider tarmacking Mwala roads and lighting Mwala town, as a way of developing the area.
Speaking in his offices on Tuesday, area DC John Kieti called upon the government together with town development associations to ensure that the town was a secure place, by putting up security lights on the sub-roads around and in the town.
“I call upon the county government and the association that deals with town developments to ensure that Mwala is considered in matters of security and transport. Our market is growing very fast with a lot of constructions and buildings coming up,” said Kieti.
“Since the roads in the town and around it were left out in the Kithimani-Mwala road project, it is now time to consider the security by installing security lights as the growth of the town comes with a full package of advantages and disadvantages that include insecurity,” added Kieti.
This comes after Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua commissioned the 33km road mid 2014 that has full lighting from Kithimani, connecting to Makutano, Machakos and Kitui.
However, the County Roads and Public Works Executive Kioko Luka stated in a different occasion that the rest of the roads would be constructed in a second phase of development.
