Residents of Mwala in Machakos County have been told to take advantage of the KCPE registration deadline extension by the Education Ministry and secure birth certificates for their children.
Addressing journalists in his office on Thursday, Mwala chief Ancent Matheka lauded the government for the move arguing the parents will not have any more reasons to complain.
Matheka urged the locals to desist from their last minutes rush culture when they have all the time to apply for the birth certificates.
“For over ten years, where were you? Parents should know the significance of this document and find it in time," Matheka said.
He warned the residents to avoid cons purporting they can help them acquire the document.
“Con men are taking advantage of this opportunity, they know the parents are desperate so they move swiftly and dupe unsuspecting parents," added Matheka.
The rush for birth certificates heightens as some parents in Makueni were forced to spend the night outside the Makueni County Commissioner's office seeking to acquire the document for their children on Wednesday.
The parents complained the offices mandated with issuance of birth certificates were understaffed making the process unnecessarily long.
