Police in Mwala Sub-county are hunting for a middle-aged man suspected of stealing a motorbike from a bodaboda operator in King'awatani area in Masii Ward after purporting to be a passenger.
According to the motorbike owner Sammy Mutiso, he was waiting for customers in Makutano town when one man approached him requesting to be taken to Masii.
On reaching Masii the man requested the bodaboda operator to wait for him since he needed to get back to Makutano and his mission wouldn't take long.
The man returned after a few minutes and the journey back to Makutano started, where the man requested to ferry the bodaboda operator claiming he also knew how to ride a motorbike.
"He asked if he could carry me, I didn't object since he said he will still pay me," narrated Mutiso.
On reaching King'watani area the helmet fell down and Mutiso was forced to go back and pick the helmet that had fallen some few metres behind. That is when the man accelerated the motorbike and sped off.
"The helmet fell of while he was riding and as I went to pick it for him he sped off leaving me stranded on the road," he said.
Mwala Police boss Henry Kimathi who confirmed the incident and warned bodaboda operators against letting their passengers steer their motorcycles.
He however disclosed that the thief may have fled to the neighbouring Kangundo Sub-county but added that police from both sides are liaising in search for the suspect and bring him to book.
