Residents of Mwala sub county have called on the  Machakos County Government to stock all public hospitals with anti venom.

This they said is to avert loss of lives in case of snake bites.

Speaking in Ndandani village on Saturday, Boniface Kiambi said it's painful that a resident should die from a snake bite due to lack of anti venom in hospitals.

"Our people should not succumb to snake bites due to lack of anti venom, the Machakos government should deal with the situation as soon as possible," Kiambi said.

He spoke during the burial of an eight year old girl who died from a snake bite.

Maureen Mwelu, a class three pupil succumbed to a snake bite last week after she was bitten while playing with her friends in the school compound.

Due to lack of Anti venom in Mwala Level Four Hospital where she had been rushed, she was referred to Machakos Level Five Hospital.

Nonetheless, the deceased was allegedly discharged without being attended to accordingly due to negligence by the doctors who attended to her.

She died the following day on her way back to Machakos Level Five Hospital after her health deteriorated.

Her burial was attended by leaders from Mwala sub county among them area MP Vincent Musau and Makutano ward MCA Brian Kisila who called for the deceased's family compensation by Kenya Wildlife Services.
