The residents said ambulances belonging to the county government have been non-functional for a long period of time thereby crippling emergency services in the Sub County.

They spoke to this writer in Mwala on Thursday.

Samuel Kiilu from Muthetheni wondered whether the ambulance project was a white elephant stating that the residents benefited from the project for a short time.

Kiilu termed the project a wastage of taxpayers money.

“Governor Alfred Mutua launched 70 ambulances back in 2014 and only a few of them are functional despite massive use of taxpayers money", Kiilu said.

They appealed to the county government through the Ministry Of Health to enhance ambulance services for the Machakos residents to benefit.

However, responding to the claims, Mwala sub county administrator Peter Maingi said that most of the ambulances in the sub county lacked insurance stickers making it difficult for them to be operational.

Maingi disclosed that the Machakos government was working on the issue to avert the situation and ensure the residents continued benefiting from the ambulance services.
