Mwala Sub-County Uwezo Fund chairman Alex Musyoka Kimatu has stepped aside, for investigations, following corruption accusations.
According to a report by Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Kimatu has been accused of embezzling public funds.
Addressing journalists in Mwala town on Friday evening, Kimatu announced his temporary resignation from office saying that the move will enable the team carrying out investigations to conduct their duties without interference.
Kimatu said that his move was also as a result of respect of law and heeding to the president’s call that all leaders holding public office and their names are appearing on the report to step aside.
“I step aside as the chairman of Uwezo Fund in Mwala Sub County to give the space for investigation on the allegations laid on me,” said Kimatu.
The 29-year old chairman is accused of not being in a position to account for funds that he allegedly gave four self-help groups in Mwala Constituency. The report says that there is no existence of such groups.
However Kimatu refuted the claims stating it is a move to tarnish his name by his political rivals.
“The allegations are catalysed by sub-county politics because I have never been asked about the said accusations. I was surprised to learn that my name is on the list through the media,” notes Kimatu.
He further said that he is ready to clear his name from the accusations as he has an outlined prove on the fund allocations.
“I am ready to appear before EACC and answer accusations levelled on me,” said Kimatu.
