Mwalimu Sacco has now officially announced construction of two main branches in Nyamira County to reduce congestion in the main offices in Kisii town.
The Sacco which mostly serves teachers from South Nyanza region has been facing major congestion prompting the management to arrive at the decision.
Speaking at his offices in Kisii town on Monday, Kisii main branch chairman Gichaba Simba said the move will drastically reduce the congestion experienced especially at end month and reduce cost incurred by some of its members who hail outside Kisii town.
“I am happy to announce that the congestion that you’re seeing out there will be a thing of the past by mid-2016. We have set aside Sh15 million that will be used to construct branches at Borabu and in Nyamira town,” Mr Simba said.
He said the Sacco was determined to improve its efficiency among its members and urged the contractor who had won the tender to expedite the work.
“All is now set and I want to urge the contractor to immediately start the work. We want to improve the efficiency for our members and that is what we are determined to do,” he added.
Mr Simba defended the Sacco’s move to halt plans to start similar project in Kisii County last year and said the Sacco wasn’t able to start the project due to financial constraints.
“We had announced a similar project in Kisii County but we suspended the plans due to financial difficulties. But for Nyamira case, nothing is going to stop the project because we have already set aside the finances,” he added.
