Yatta constituency Member of parliament Francis Mwangangi banned sand harvesting in Yatta following a protest held on Friday by Masewani and Mukalala residents in Matuu location.
Mwangangi addressing the residents said that the sand harvesting activities have not only destroyed the environment but also the roads giving an example of Mukalala-Masewani road.
He noted that the residents were complaining as the sand harvesting activities have led to young boys dropping out of school to work as leaders of sand and also the lorry turnboys engaging in sexual relationships with young girls from the area.
