Hospital Ward Representative JB Mwangi has cautioned youths in the area against engaging in criminal activities and instead wants them to work with him on propelling development.

Speaking to a section of residents at Thika town on Wednesday, the Hospital Member of County Assembly (MCA) told youths to get involved in development activities.

He said that various development projects are being implemented in the area and that youths stand a chance to gain if they seek involvement.

The Ward Rep told youths that engaging in crime will not provide solutions to the problems facing them. Mwangi encouraged youths to take advantage of the government funds instead of falling prey to crime.

“The government has taken the initiative to empower young people and they must take the advantage of the programmes by applying and utilizing the funds,” he said.

The MCA said that he is working with other leaders in the area to empower young people.

Meanwhile, the MCA has urged traffic police to strictly enforce the traffic laws saying that cases of accidents are on the rise in the area. He said that several cases of accidents are being reported.

The MCA blamed the rise in accidents to rogue motorists who he said are not abiding with the road law.

On Monday, two school girls aged 12 and 9 were hit by a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu as they were crossing the Thika-Garissa Road near Cravers Hotel.

The manhunt for the Matatu driver that belongs to the G-Shuttle is still on as the children recuperate at the Thika Level 5 Hospital.
