Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria has drafted a hawking bill which seeks to protect the welfare of hawkers in Kenya. The proposed law if passed will protect hawkers from constant eviction and allocate them space.
Wa iria has presented the draft law to the Senate speaker Hon.Ken Lusaka for debate.
This comes at a time when hawkers have faced eviction from major town centers.Among the notable towns are Eldoret, Mombasa and Nairobi.
The proposal has been welcomed by his Nyeri counterpart Governor Mutahi Kahiga.
The bill is classified as a private members bill with structures that will see all hawkers represented in the Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and international trade organizations.
