Mombasa ACK Bishop-elect Alphonse Mwaro on Sunday officially replaced Julius Kalu following his retirement. The consecration of the new bishop comes after a month of legal battle. Last Friday, there were fist fights after a section of the brethren protested the ruling of the court that paved way for the anointment of Mwaro. The new bishop, a lecturer at the ACK Bishop Hannington Institute of Theology and Development Studies, is expected to lead the Church until November 23, 2043. The consecration of Mwaro took place at Mbaraki Sports Ground and was presided over by Archbishop Jackson ole Sapit. The court had dismissed an application by Vicars George Kuza, Emmanuel Wanje, and Tom Dawa, who sought to stop the anointment of the new bishop. The trio told the court that the election of Mwaro was marred by illegalities and irregularities, adding that it does not reflect the will of the members of the church.Sapit, however, dismissed the claims, saying that Mwaro was validly elected to replace him, adding that he is satisfied with the court ruling. He further said that the disgruntled clerics should accept the outcome of the case and come together to build the church."We allowed those that were unsatisfied to move to court. The court decided. There is nothing to debate now," said Sapit, as quoted by The Star.
