Kenyans and political leaders have weighed in on the Sonko-Igathe fallout that continues to grip the country.Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mweke has finally made his intervention in that debate.
Speaking today on a local television station, Mweke said Igathe had outlived his usefulness.
''These positions that we are given are not about power but about giving service to the people. It's unfortunate that we are now talking about legislating what roles to give the deputy governor. The governor is the person who carries the vision of the county. Power -sharing agreements should not work as we have seen in Nairobi. Igathe was brought to pacify the business community and make them comfortable. As soon as Sonko was elected, Igathe had outlived their usefulness,'' Honourable Mweke said.Mweke called on governors to choose deputies who can complement them and not on the basis of ethnicity. He decried the fallout between Sonko and Igathe, saying that the reality had to change for Nairobi to go forward.
