Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has said that there was no selection criteria used in the search for the new Kenya national team head coach.
This is after Belgian Paul Put was appointed to the position.
Mwendwa defended the move, saying it is a practice done in most countries - federations identifying one person they feel fits the bill and he revealed FKF had been trailing the Belgian for the past three months.
He added that Put's record in Africa was a major reason he got the job.
“In selecting a head coach, it is not a must that you have to advertise for the position. You screen the coaching world on who can fit your portfolio and we saw Put as one coach who we wanted and immediately started the pursuit.
“When you look at top coaches in Africa like Herve Renard (Morocco national team head coach), they are hard to lure due to the attraction they command. We have been in for Put for the last three months and we are glad that we have him here,” Mwendwa noted.
Put was handed a two year contract with the national team and will have immediate former Stars head coach Stanley Okumbi.
