Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu has decried the congestion within the correction institutions especially prisons around the country.
Mwilu said that has brought unnecessary use of huge resources and effect on the criminal justice system.
She spoke in Nakuru on Friday during a conference for probation officers.
The Deputy CJ said that the prisons whose capacity stands at approximately 30,000 has been overstretched to around 50,000 thus compromising the quality of healthcare of the inmates and provision of food.
She however expressed concern over the low funding from the government to correctional services that could help the probation officers handle some of the things that could bring about enhanced criminal justice system.
