Speaking to the press on Monday in Mwingi town, Dr Mulyungi blamed the government for what he described as “ skewed compensation” after it dished out hefty amounts for camels killed during the conflict.

"It's unfortunate that members of the Somali community were compensated despite the blatant disrespect of encroaching into our county to graze their camels on people’s farms," he said.

Dr Mulyungi observed that several families numbering over 30 have been left destitute following the deaths of the family breadwinners.

"Orphaned children have dropped out of school to fend for themselves and their siblings. The levels of poverty along the border have skyrocketed," he added.

He said that Kenya Police Reservists have not been paid for several months now adding that their morale is dissipating at the expense of

securing the porous border.

Among the affected areas include Kasiluni, Inyanzae and Ngomeni in Kyuso Sub-County where two herders of Somali origin were killed a month ago.
