A man in Mwingi on Monday killed a government official and later hacked a senior police officer who was manning a roadblock near Ukasi market.
According to the Star, the unnamed man allegedly attacked the officer with a panga when he responded to the government official's distress call.
Confirming the incidence, Mwingi East police boss Gideon Mugambi said the Northern Water Services Board official from Garissa county had come to the area to greet his colleague.
He was en route to Nairobi while his friend - Kimwaki Mutinda - was going to Garissa when the incident occurred.
The OCS at Ukasi police station was manning the roadblock a few metres from where the first victim stopped.
According to Mugambi, other police officers at the road-block killed the assailant by shooting him in the stomach after he hacked their boss.
"The attacker approached the two parastatal officials from behind and cut the victim on the head," he said as reported be the Star.
The two bodies were later taken to the Mwingi Hospital mortuary.
