A Coast MP has denied allegations that he performed a ritual in his bid to retain his seat in the elections conducted on August 8, last year.
Changamwe legislator Omar Mwinyi dismissed claims by the petitioner that two goats were seen emerging out of his house into a constituency polling centre, then back to the house before being slaughtered and their meat thrown into the sea.
"The claims are both wild and outrageous, but at the same time laughable. I was re-elected because the people of Changamwe believed in my leadership, not rituals," Mwinyi told the court on Wednesday.
The MP was responding to questions from lawyer Gikandi Ngibuini representing Mohamed Mahmoud- a petitioner challenging Mwinyi's victory.
"There is an assertion that you believe so much in witchcraft, an assertion that puts in doubt your integrity and credibility," Ngibuini had told the MP.
