Two days after Mumoi Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) relocated to the nearby Mwiteithie area in Subukia after contributing Sh.500 each to buy a five acre piece of land; they have now appealed for humanitarian assistance.
The IDPs are living in wanting situation with tattered tents amidst a heavy downpour going on in the area.
They also lack clean drinking water and food.
The camp Secretary Ng'ang'a Gikonyo who has continued to plead with the government to help them has said that they are staring at a great risk of disease break-outs especially among children.
"We tried our best and bought ourselves this plot after the government refused to resettle us saying we were fake IDPs. We would like them now to come and help us come out of this humanitarian crisis," Gikonyo told the press yesterday.
Gikonyo says that they can barely afford anything they are doing manual jobs and they are being paid Sh.70, which is barely enough.
He adds that they also do not have latrines and the water they are using is at risk of mixing with human waste which may accelerate the spread of diseases further.
