A group of residents from Mwongori village in Borabu constituency have asked the government to consider taking an ex-convict to a rehabilitation centre for allegedly continuing to threaten them.

Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Wednesday, they said Mr Alex Mochama, who finished serving a 14-year jail term in Kodiaga prison for raping a minor, was still a threat to the society since he allegedly seems not having learnt lessons from his jail term.

They gave the government an ultimatum of a week to act before they officially present their plea to various human rights groups for an action.

“This ex-convict is still a threat to our people. He has been quoted several times since he left jail in April threatening many of us and even vowing to take revenge," said Peter Moturi, a resident.

"He has been accusing some of us to allegedly incriminating him and that is why we want him taken to rehabilitation in a bid to learn how to cope with life after jail.”

Area chief David Ogega confirmed having received the complaints from the local people and urged them to restrain from panicking as the government considered their plea.

“We must remember that he served his jail term and therefore he is free again. Although their concerns are genuine, they must give authorities time to ascertain it before we take appropriate measures,” he said.

Efforts to reach Mr Mochama to respond to allegations were futile since his cell phone remained off for the better part of Wednesday.
