Anne Anyanga, the wife to Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga said her attempt to oust Migori Governor Okoth Obado are being dimmed by voters and opponents who claim she cannot contest for the position because she is married to an MP.

Constitutionally, every Kenyan above the age of 18, 21 and 35, has no criminal record, is not bankrupt and meets the set academic requirements qualifies to vie for any political position irrespective of their marital status.

Legally, equally, anyone married cannot be barred from vying for a political seat basing on the status of his/ spouse in society.

"My rivals use the fact that I’m married to an MP to discredit my bid because they are scared," Ms Anyanga said.

In 2013 she was chosen to fly ODM’s flag in the Migori governor race, but was prevailed upon by the party leadership to deputise Prof Edward Oyugi.

The pair lost to Okoth Obado and Hamilton Orata of the PDP party.

She added that her political rivals have all the time used this excuse to discredit her "finding no problem with my academic credentials, party loyalty and grassroots support."

She said it was God's plan that she got married to a politician.

She spoke on Wednesday during the Budho Mokwe show on Mayienga FM.

"Residents should assess me on my campaign pledges and leadership record," Ms Anyanga said.

"Women vying in forthcoming elections need to be given an equal chance instead of dwelling on minor issues like marriages."
