Orange Democratic Movement leader, Raila Odinga, has eulogised President Uhuru Kenyatta's elder sister who died on Wednesday, at a Nairobi hospital.
In his tribute, Odinga said that he has lost a sister and long time friend. He stated that the late Wambui was adopted by his father, Jaramogi when the elder Kenyatta was in detention for fighting against colonialists.
He described her as the bridge between the Odingas and the Kenyattas.
"We recall that in the course of her father’s detention, Margaret was adopted by Jaramogi, making her part of our extended family as we grew up," said the Opposition leader. In the tribute reported by the Star, Odinga recounted his long history with Wambui and her family, saying he knew her from her days as a freedom fighter through her father.
Raila said the Jaramogis will stand with the Kenyattas at this time.
Wambui died aged 89 after a short illness. She was the only daughter and the eldest of two children of Mzee Kenyatta and his first wife Wahu. She was the first mayor of Nairobi.
