Isaack Okuta, 48, allegedly murdered his neighbour, Aurthur Olonyi on January 29 2013 after a quarrel ensued, the court heard on Monday.
According to Okuta's step-daughter, Irene Wairimu, he came home drunk at 8pm and started quarreling with his wife who fled when she sensed danger.
“I was doing my homework together with my siblings when the quarrel was ongoing and our mum ran out for safety. My father went to look for her but he came without her after 30 minutes,” Wairimu told the court.
Their neighbour, Olonyi went and asked her why he frequently quarreled with his wife and both of them started arguing.
It is then that Okuta allegedly went to the house and came out with an axe.
“Our father then went out and stayed for long before coming back that we slept. He came later in the night when we were asleep but the mother never showed up that night,” added Wairimu.
Wairimu was later informed the following day that his father had been arrested for killing his neighbour.
“We woke up well and went to school at 6.30 the following day. Officers came to school and broke the bad news to me,” Wairimu said amid tears.
In his testimony, Corporal Leonard Ngeso who worked at Kibunja Police Station at the CID department received a call from the area chief and went to the scene only to find Olonyi's body outside his door.
“After arriving at the scene, we found the deceased lying face down. His rear part of the head was badly injured and we found an axe besides him which we concluded that it must be the one used to cause the harm,” Ngeso said.
He added that it was being rumoured that Olonyi secretly followed Okuta's wife which he found untrue.
“The accused went to his working place the following day unaware of the damages he had caused. It is there where he was arrested,” Ngeso added.
The hearing continues on April 26.
