President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned that his government will not tolerate individuals set to disrupt the country's peace and order.
While calling for unity and constitutionalism, the president delivered a thinly veiled warning at the Parliament buildings, hinting that opposition leaders who stayed away from his address were up to mass protests which he would not stand.
“My government will not tolerate anyone intent on disrupting our hard-won peace and stability," he said.
"Under no circumstances must Kenyans ever allow our free competitive processes to become a threat to the peace and security of our nation,” Uhuru added.
The president warned that whereas his administration will allow democratic competition in the country, he shall not sit to watch individuals manipulating the window to bring destruction to the country.
“We shall continue to encourage vibrant democratic competition, we shall not allow destructive division.”
