Mutua during the national launch of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement at the Bomas of Kenya on Thursday night said that poverty is the major challenge facing Ukambani region.

The Machakos governor observed that for year’s locals have been unable to access water, food and other basic services.

He added that the rate of unemployment among young people is also high in the region.

Governor Mutua blamed some politicians who have served in government for many years for failing to advocate for locals rights and welfare.

“It is unfortunate that people who are opposed to Maendeleo Chap Chap are the same people who have for years failed to deliver services to Ukambani people,” he said.

Governor Mutua said that his greatest enemy is poverty and not political opponents.

“The only enemy I am fighting is poverty and I will not rest until the enemy is defeated,” he added.

Mutua said that Maendeleo Chap Chap seeks to agitate for development at grassroots not only in Machakos but across the country.

Mutua said that movement has launched offices across the 47 counties.

He urged governors to support the movement in efforts to promote development at grass roots.
