Kamenu ward MCA Mary Hussein has claimed that her life is in danger, and has called for Thika Deputy County Commissioner to assure her of her safety.
Speaking during a meeting with locals in Kiang’ombe area of Thika sub-county where the DCC had arrived with government officials to resolve an ageing land dispute, the county legislator called upon the government agencies to join hands and resolve the disputes which have been causing havoc.
Hussein, whose house was torched by unknown people earlier last year, said that she has been carrying the burden of advocating for the rights of the people she represents and taking blames on behalf of the people.
The MCA revealed to the press that she has been receiving threatening messages from one Lydia Wang’ondu a resident of Thika who is said to have grabbed the whole of Kiang’ombe and Maasai Estates and sold them to the Indian investor who owns Kenblest Baking Company.
The Asian has already commenced the construction of another industry on the grabbed land and has ordered the residents to vacate their legally owned land, threatening to vacate them as he has all the legal documents showing he owns the land.
“These people are suffering in the hands of one of them who decided to sell the whole of this area. The people have no title deeds and the only school in this area has also been grabbed leaving the children with nowhere to learn from,” she said.
Speaking from the scene where he arrived to inspect the area in the company of other government officials among them the government surveyor, lands registrar among others, Thika DCC Tom Anjere said that he has confirmed that the residents have raised more than Sh60 million seeking their title deeds and the money is in the government and safe hands.
“I am willing to stop the construction and help you in resolving the dispute but you should obtain an injunction from the court so as you know everyone is secured by the constitution of Kenya,” Anjere said.
The DCC called upon the MCA to report to the police and record a statement with the police calling upon her to distance herself from the land tussle now that the government has taken over the dispute resolution process.
