Ocheso said al-Shabaab sympathisers have been threatening his life after turning down their Sh6 million offer to work as their trainer.

Ocheso, 35, who was arrested in 2015 over terrorism claims, claimed that he has approached the police for help but his efforts have not borne any fruits.

He said he decided to turn to human rights groups, which have also failed to assist him.

Ocheso, who is now an evangelist in Mikindani, Mombasa, said he is worried about his life and that of his daughter Ashley Wesa, aged three.

"She is the only family I have. I lost my other 16-month-daughter in February. She fell sick while we were in hiding and died," he said, as quoted by Standard Digital.

"My wife, Faith Masumbuko, went back to her parents and my in-laws have been accusing me of putting her life in danger," he added.

An official from the Kenya Human Rights Commission who sought anonymity, confirmed that the man approached them for help.

"We referred him to The Cradle, (which handles children's welfare) because of his daughter. They are better placed to help him," said the officer.

Ocheso said he went to The Cradle who referred him to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR,) but was directed to the Federation of Women Lawyers.

At this point he thought someone could help him only to be referred to Kituo cha Sheria.

"The above named person has visited our offices seeking legal assistance on claims related to terrorism charges. His wife abandoned him, he has no job and finds it difficult to sustain himself and his children," read the letter he was given by FIDA.

"My biggest worry is my child's safety. Once she is safe, I can sort myself later. I will have nothing more to lose then,” he said.
