Parliament Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso has reiterated she will vie for the Bomet Governor seat despite her home being in Nyanza.
Laboso said the Constitution allows Kenyans to contest for political seats in any part of the country irrespective of who they are married to.
Laboso is married to a Luo man from Nyanza and her political opponents especially Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto insist that she vies for political seats in Nyanza where her home is.
Speaking on Radio Jambo on Tuesday, she said her opponents were afraid of her political support base and had resorted to mudslinging to taint her image ahead of the elections.
"Politics is politics," she said.
"Every time, opponents will look for what we call a weak link through which they will use to discredit you. This won't work, because I have been MP for all this time while married. I did not get married yesterday."
"By the time I was elected Sotik MP, I had been married for over 20 years. I have been in Parliament for all this time, so how do you bring this issue now?"
She blamed the Mr Ruto of mismanaging county resources.
"If you compare the amount of money the national government has sent to Bomet and the development on the ground, there is a big difference."
Laboso is expected to face-off with Governor for the seat of Governor, Bomet, in 2017.
She will vie on a Jubilee Party ticket while Mr Ruto will ride on the Chama Cha Mashinani party to defend his seat.
