In a long response to newspaper reports that the governor is running the county in a shambolic manner, Sonko said a section of the media has been paid to tarnish his name.

He said the decision to sack Makori was necessitated as he was working with his 'enemies'.

"One of my CECMs, Danvas Makori, sacking was necessitated by information I obtained, and which he admitted to, that he was in constant communication with people associated with my predecessor who have been sponsoring negative publicity against me," Sonko said.

The controversial governor said that despite promising to change his ways, Makori went ahead and called him an academic dwarf.

"Makori continued to engage my predecessor's people. In a text message Makori decided to attack me telling the PA to Kidero, 'Don't worry about my boss. He is an academic dwarf. But he pretends to be smarter than us. This time round we must fix him. The system hates him'," Sonko said.
