Dr Matiangi said the country has made some significant gains through the knowledge based curriculum since independence, the growing social, technological, economic demands on education, resulting from the rapid dynamism in the world.

The CS was speaking during the Pan-commonwealth Consultation Forum on Education Policy on Tuesday.

He said the changes made by the Ministry will ensure that all learners have access to quality and relevant curriculum where they acquire the necessary skills, competencies and qualifications capable of promoting national values, inspiring innovation and creativity.

“The education system and curriculum of any nation are considered important for transforming peoples’ lives as they have a direct bearing on their training and work.”

“They have profound implications on how education is conceptualised, organised, delivered and measured. Fundamental instruments include flexible education pathways, dynamic and quality curriculum, relevant skills and innovative pedagogical approaches that utilize ICT,” he said.

Dr Matiang'i hailed the commonwealth secretariat for bringing together the member states to set mechanisms to monitor education standards in their respective countries.

He said the Education Ministry has come up with policies to improve education curriculum with a view of making it globally competitive.

Some of the reforms include development and implementation of; Sessional Paper number 2 of 2015 on Reforming Education and Training sectors in Kenya; The Basic Education Act 2013, Science; Technology and Innovations Act, 2013; Universities Act, 2013; The National Education Sector Plan (NESP) which is the implementing programme of the Sessional Paper no 2 of 2015; Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development Act, 2013 and The Kenya National Examinations Council Act, 2012, among other legal documents.

These, he said, together with other international legislations and protocols such as the Sustainable Development Goals, will guide the education reform process to make it all encompassing and inclusive.
