Nyamira women representative Alice Chae has labelled a fierce competitor Annet Onsando as a ‘project’, and cautioned residents against electing her in 2017.
Onsando, a niece to the incumbent is believed to be gaining grounds in the county, capitalizing on alleged failures of her aunt.
Chae however, who spoke on phone to this writer from Dadaab on Friday accused Onsando of being used by top rivals to divide votes from the larger Kitutu Masaba constituency.
“She is my niece but I believe she is a project of my main rivals. She always talks ill of me and to make matters worse, I have tried to reach her to bring ideas to the table but no time has she considered doing so,” she said.
Chae accused Onsando of propagating propaganda about her personal relationships, and challenged her to campaign on agendas that could benefit residents of Nyamira.
“It’s sad that a niece can come out to defame my character by spreading propaganda about my marital status. As much as we have political freedom, it is important that she sticks to main agendas of helping out county to move forward. Otherwise, it’s sad that she is being used by hungry politicians who are out to divide my voting base,” she added.
However, Onsando has since defended her entrance to the Women Representative race and dismissed claims of 'assassinating' Chae’s marital relationship.
“I respect my aunt so much and it’s not true that I am used by the competitors. I know what our women need and I am ready to rectify things. We all have political rights which I think cannot be associated with our family backgrounds,” she said.
The women representative race has started shaping up with Chae, Onsando, Jerusa Momanyi and Cathrene Nyamato all ready to scramble for the seat in 2017.
