A Member of Parliament from Homa Bay County has described his Sh 600,000 salary as peanuts.
Homa Bay legislator Peter Kaluma says he is unable to take care of his child, born out of wedlock, because he is broke.
Kaluma said his monthly pay was only enough to take care of his expenses for a weekend.
“In fact the current legislators are earning very little compared to their predecessors. I for example make much more money from other businesses and legal practice than from my salary as an MP where my take home pay is only Sh600,000 which isn’t even enough for a weekend,” he claimed while appearing on a KTN show.
In 2014, Kaluma told the Children’s Court that he was bankrupt, unable to take care of his children and tabled his January 2014 payslip indicating zero net pay, from a gross salary of Sh600,000.
He was sued by Martha Akinyi for child upkeep of his 7 year-old daughter.
